Scholarship Opportunities

It started 100 years ago with a group of girls seeking challenge, fun and adventure.

Today, at the dawn of a new century, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts is the largest organization for girls and women in the world. There are more than 10 million members in 144 countries. As members of Guides Canada, girls just don't read about life - they experience it hands on in an atmosphere of fun and friendship that recognizes the individual needs of each girl. We offer girls 5 - 17 age-appropriate programs based on principles that:
  • develop personal values and well-being, self respect and respect for others
  • promote fun, friendship, adventure and challenges through new experiences
  • celebrate pride in accomplishment
  • develop leadership and decision-making skills
  • teach practical skills and teamwork
  • give service to the community
  • value the natural enviroment
  • develop an appreciation of Canada and its diversity
  • foster cultural understanding and knowledge of the global community

   Scholarship Opportunities

Manitoba Council will now be offering four different busaries to help members continue their education:

  1. Full-time Enrollment Bursary: To financially assist active Manitoba members of Girl Guides in post secondary education at an accredited institute in the Province of Manitoba (some exceptions may apply if course not offered in Manitoba). Must be enrolled in studies full time. Minimum of 2 years active membership in Manitoba Girl Guides.

  2. Part-time Enrollment Bursary: To financially assist active adult members of Manitoba Girl Guides, to further their education on a part time basis at an accredited institute in the Province of Manitoba. Any current Manitoba member of Girl Guides of Canada who has been an active member for a minimum of 5 years.

  3. Junior Bursary: To financially assist active Manitoba members of Girl Guides in extra curricular education in such areas as the arts, music, dance, language, science and other such skill areas deemed appropriate by the Committee. Any current paid up member of Girl Guides between the age of 7 and 18; who has been an active member in the Province of Manitoba for at least a minimum of 2 years.

  4. Manitoba Award of Excellence Scholarship: To financially assist active Manitoba members of Girl Guides in post secondary education at an accredited institute in the Province of Manitoba. Must be in their final year of high school and enrolling full time in post secondary education. Minimum of 5 years active membership in Manitoba Girl Guides.

All recipients must be members in good standing with no outstanding membership fees and must plan to continue membership in Manitoba Girl Guides.

A bursary is to assist in tuition costs only. Books and equipment costs are not eligible. Members may receive a bursary from the Manitoba Council only once per calendar year.

Completed applications must be returned to the address in the left column by the deadline date on the application form.

All bursaries are dependent on funds available; funding and presentation are at the discretion of the committee.
