The Brownie Program is a two-year program for girls
ages 7 to 9. Girls enrolled in Brownies wear a
uniform consisting of several options. They can choose from either a short sleeve
t-shirt with navy trim, or a long sleeve t-shirt, navy cargo pants or a skort, there
is also a hoodie and a polar fleece vest available, all girls wear a navy badge
scarf and a tie. All uniform pieces are available at your local
Guide store.
Young girls in Brownies will learn how to share, help out, respect their environment
and learn about safety, healthy living and to be good citizens. This is accomplished
through fun activities, games, crafts and songs. Brownies are also encouraged to
help out with service projects and they have a chance to interact with other Girl
Guide branches through bridging activities.
The Brownie program is divided into 10 keys. The first is Key to Brownies, which has four program activities.
The other keys are Key to Me,
Key to my Community, Key to Girl Guides,
Key to I can, Key
to Active living, Key to STEM,
Key to Living world, Key to Camping,
and Key to the Arts. Each key has optional interest
badges the girls can earn that will further their understanding of the program area.
Some of the badges they can earn are: Pen Pals, All about Canada, Money talk, Pet
Pals, Help our Planet and so many more.
Outdoor activities are a fun part of Brownies and in some instances becomes the
first chance a girl gets to camp in our great outdoors in a tent with other girls
her age.
